Fundraising Commons exists to help advancement teams treat constituent data with care. We hold this site to the same standard. The short version: this is an open, static educational website. There are no accounts, we don't sell or share your data, and we collect as little as possible.
What we collect
- Standard server logs. Our host (Cloudflare) records ordinary request information (IP address, browser type, and the pages requested) to serve the site securely and reliably. These are operational logs, not a profile of you.
- Local browser storage. We store your light/dark theme choice
and, where a reading area is access-gated, your access code, in your browser's
localStorage. This stays on your device and is never sent to us. - No accounts, no tracking pixels, no advertising. We don't ask you to register, and we don't run cross-site advertising or behavioral tracking.
Third-party services
Some features rely on external services that have their own privacy practices. If and when you use them, their policies apply:
- Discourse: our community forum at discourse.fundcommons.org, if you choose to participate.
- Comments may be provided by a third-party widget on some reading pages; loading a page with comments connects you to that provider.
- GitHub: our source, schemas, and issue tracker are hosted there.
What we don't do
We don't sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we don't use this site to collect donor or constituent records. The sample data used throughout the handbook and novel is synthetic.
Your choices
You can clear this site's local storage at any time through your browser, and you can block cookies or third-party content with standard browser settings without breaking the core reading experience.
